Oem brake pads last around 30000 miles and i just found out that my sensor turns on when the pad has 3mm left on it. Quick reply please as i must leave early am.

Bmw brake pad warning light long can drive. 11 nov 2010 at 0859 pm. My brake pad warning light came on a hundred or so miles ago and ive left it in the garage ever since logging some most excellent late summer miles in my new clk drop top. Bmw is not dumb and they must have built a reasonable buffer.
Once the light comes on the old sensors are fooked. So thats a little less. Yeah many miles left i think bmw do it on purpose so you have to buy new wear sensors.
If you suspect a leak and your brake warning light is on get in touch with a mechanic as soon as possible so you can get your car inspected. I think ive gone another 1000 miles on my old car rear pads warning was on. Also i highly doubt that at the time the brake pad warning light turns on the car can still make 10000 miles safely before harming the rotor.
Its come on at bmw specified pad thickness there is probably a fair bit of wear left. A new pad has 10mm. Can i chance it.
Old worn out brake pad sensor will light up red service message and. I changed my pads very soon after the warning message came on and there was still over. Also i highly doubt that at the point the light turns on i have only 100 miles left.

It is safe to drive with this light on for a short amount of time. Brake warning message in bmw 1 series e87 caused most likely by brake pad sensor which was not replaced while servicing brakes. As mentioned earlier the light will come on when you still have some brake pad material left but if you wait too long and continue driving you will run out of material and damage the rotors.
